Whether you’re bookish or needing to pick up an edition for class, Hyde Park has some great resources for all things books. Here are just a few of my favorites:
Powell’s

It’s impossible not to talk about Powell’s. This is your go-to for any thought-provoking read. I personally love browsing their selection of ancient history and archaeology books, as well as their (small but solid) collection of French works. The audience here is definitely more academic than other Powell’s branches, which a large theory, sciences, and literary selection. They always have something fun featured on the sci-fi shelf, though! They also offer student discounts and run crazy good sales at the end of the season.
Seminary Co-op

Right on campus is the Seminary Co-op bookstore. This is likely already you’re go-to as a UChicago student, but it’s a fun one to get lost in regardless. Their top picks selection changes regularly and I always find myself dragged in by something new.
57th Street Books

You’ve probably seen the inauspicious red threshold while on your way to Medici’s for a coffee and a snack. Don’t pass this one by! 57th Street Books is a hidden gem of all things bookish. Wanting to try a new hobby? Check out their selection of cookbooks. Need a gripping adventure to sink into? Their sci-fi/fantasy section has so many good options. Their new arrivals and featured reads are always fresh and exciting.
First Aid Comic Books

Looking for an exciting, action-packed read after grabbing a treat at La Boulangerie & Co? Cross the street and check out First Aid Comics. If you’re a DC or Marvel fan, you’re sure to love the entire wall stacked from floor to ceiling with comic volumes. From retro arcade machines to their cardboard cut-out mascot, this place is a real haven for comic book lovers! They also host community events throughout the month, so be sure to check their calendar on their website.
