Being a student means studying a lot, of course, and always being locked up in your room sucks, right? The University of Chicago is just so aesthetic, and getting out of the house is important! There are so many amazing spots for you to study that we’ve made the list for you!
1. GRAD Office
If you’re a grad student, well, the Graduate Student Lounge is the place set up for YOU! Located on the fourth floor of the UChicago Bookstore, the Lounge is a space where grad students from across programs can drop in for individual study, small-group collaboration, and socializing.
In addition to two reservable meeting spaces, the Lounge features a quiet space, kitchenette with daily refrigeration service, free daily locker rentals, coffee, tea, and light snacks - doesn’t that sound perfect?
2. The Reg
The Regenstein Library, mainly known as "The Reg," is a multi-level haven for students seeking the ideal study spot. With its seven diverse floors, there is a space to suit every individual's studying needs.
If you thrive in collaborative (sometimes loud) environments, the lower levels are a great place where conversation flows freely, making them perfect for group work. A-Level has whiteboards adorning the walls, inviting students to scribble out math formulas and scientific equations for shared understanding.
On the other hand, the upper levels of the library provide a peaceful ambiance that is specific for students looking for quiet. When it comes to grinding out a paper, you will likely find me nestled in one of the cubicles on the second floor or delving into the stacks on the fourth floor.
3. Harper Reading Room
Harper is well-known for its strikingly beautiful architecture reminiscent of Hogwarts, but it’s also highly regarded for its incredibly comfortable sofas that rival even the coziest beds.
In fact, some students visit Harper simply to take a nap on their plush seating options. When it's time to hit the books, the North Reading Room offers the perfect atmosphere with several cubicles and a comfortable open-seating plan.
And if you're in the mood for a caffeine fix, Harper Café is one of the best spots on campus to grab a fresh-brewed cup of coffee. With its inviting interiors and blissful surroundings, Harper is a much-loved space where students can relax and recharge in comfort and style.
4. The Logan Center
Nestled just south of the Midway, the Logan Center for the Arts effortlessly captures attention with its stunning, sleek glass windows that gleam under the sunlight. This versatile architectural gem houses a wide range of facilities, including a vibrant cafe, well-equipped musical practice rooms, spacious classrooms, and a remarkable penthouse performing arts space. The upper floors offer a breathtaking panoramic view of the campus, thanks to the expansive windows that provide a captivating aerial perspective.
5. Mansueto
Mansueto Library holds a special place in UChicago’s students’ hearts. Its distinct dome-shaped structure, crafted almost entirely of glass, offers a unique sight - the ability to see into and out of the library through its transparent walls.
Mansueto is a pretty quiet and strict place, so it’s great if you want to concentrate. The only thing is that it’s super hard to find a spot there to study during the day, so ideally, head over there early in the morning to get a spot!
We hope this list helps you diversify your study spots while making the most of UChicago’s aesthetic campus! Changing it up is important for your mental health as you study during your student journey, so head over to these spots!
